What is wrong with these people? Yesterday, after a comedy of errors and false starts, a Zune.net notice went up announcing that “we will no longer be producing Zune players”. Finally, we thought (and blogged), this charade of “will there be another Zune?” was over.
But no. As unbelievable as it may sound, today, the web page announcing the end of Zune players has been pulled, and @ZuneSupport chalks it up what it thinks “may have been an error”. Here’s a screenshot of a Twitter thread between @ZuneSupport and @WP_DownUnder:
Of course, we saw the message posted to Zune.net yesterday, we copied and pasted the pertinent text directly from the site, and can verify it was up. In fact @ZuneSupport seems to be trying to wish the announcement out of existence:

but, of course, there was very decidedly and definitely “official info pertaining to discontinuing it”, we saw it with our own eyes (whether or not it was later pulled). Does Microsoft really expect us to believe that someone took the time to craft the announcement, assuring users that their current devices would be supported but that Zune players were being discontinued, posted it, and it was all “an error”, and there aren’t plans to discontinue Zune players?
Just kill it already, guys. Zune players have been dead for most of the year, we all know it. It’s ok. Take a deep breath and do the right thing.
