Windows Live Alerts gets the Wave 3 look…finally!

Windows Live Alerts have finally gotten a facelift and joins the rest of the Windows Live family in getting the “Wave 3” look – making it one of the last Windows Live services to make the switch (Video Messages just made the switch a month ago, and there’s only My.Live.com, Gallery and Silverlight Streaming left to go). Interestingly, Alerts totally skipped the “Wave 2” look and went straight from the good old Flair/Blue Vapour theme to the new one. Enough said, here’s a screenshot of the new look:

From initial testing, it doesn’t seem like it contains any new features as part of this update, besides the new “Featured Alerts Providers” homepages for each country/region. The link for website owners to sign-up and create their own alerts for their website was also removed from the homepage. The supposedly “new” feature for content owners to create custom Branded Alerts and Alert with Advertisement that was under limited beta testing previously was also not apparent in this update:

Custom Alert

We also heard that it may become part of the new Azure Service Platform. At least this shows that Windows Live Alerts is still alive!

Thanks to Picturepan2 at LiveSino.net and BV2312 for the heads up!

@paperlock: Thanks! Post updated!

@BV2312: Sorry I don't have access to the tips *at* LiveSide *dot* net  account (maybe I should sign up for an Alert for that account =P), but thanks for sending us the tip anyways! I've updated the post to acknowledge your contribution =) Keep the tips coming!

Googe to see alerts aren't dead. I really wish they made it easier for site owners to change their alert feeds though. Afaik the only way to make changes afterwards is via email, the last 2 times I tried that there wasn't any reply.

The real question is: when will there be a complete and up-to-date inventory of those Windows Live Services? The challenge is for one WL user to find them all. There is no single place on WL propoerties that has this list.

Videomessages, for instance: a great feature. But who knows about it? And who would know, since it is not listed anywhere.

OneCare is being discontinued, would be a waste of time to update the looks of that.

Just like Hotmail, they do not have support for dynamic themes on the new Windows Live Alerts homepage - it's still ridiculous, the amount of inconsistencies they have. They have support for dynamic themes on some services and it appears to be random.

I don't mind it as much not having it on Windows Live Alerts, but to miss it out of Hotmail is appaling. In fact, it's inconsistency whichever way you look at it if it isn't on both.

I don't even dare go to Windows Live Support or Windows Live Feedback because of how inconsistent their supposed 'wave 3' look is.

Oh dear!

I really wished Facebook, MySpace, and other social networking sites would use Windows Live Alerts. Instead of clogging my e-mail inbox with little items that are relatively minor in importance, I'd rather just have little alerts telling me this.

They may have updated the look to Wave3, but the functionality is still zero.  I can't unsubscribe from alerts of services that don't exist anymore.  Live Expo anyone?  Yeah...can't get rid of it. Or MSN Calendar, or MSN Money, or eBay back in the day when they used Passport.

You all seem to have missed out one very important area of Windows Live which also missed out in having a facelift during Wave 3 and that is Spaces!  For many users of Windows Live its the most important area as well. Poor Spaces is in dire need of bringing bang up to date in this gran's opinion. More themes ( perhaps the same as the rest of Live) more layouts, more modules, choice of wider layouts, more fonts and font sizes, all the lot needs a complete overall.
