Windows Live ID gets a Wave 3 facelift

If you’ve tried signing in to any Windows Live ID-powered services today in your web browser, you’ll notice that the sign-in page has gotten a different look, as an introduction to the whole suite of Wave 3 Windows Live internet services. Here’s a screenshot:

Windows Live ID

There isn’t really much new except it’s gotten a new Wave 3 “buddy icon” – looks like it had lost some weight over the past years and is now consistent with the rest of the new Wave 3 icons:

From left to right: Messenger, Photos, Calendar, Mail, People, Writer, Events, SkyDrive, Spaces, Groups, Movie Maker

Of course, as Windows Live ID starts supporting OpenID, expect more updates coming your way!

I strongly dislike the new icons. It's too playful and kinda feminish. I mean flowers? Blech. The yellow ribbon around most icons is just extraneous.

Also the Groups icon is too similar to the current Spaces icon. And the new Spaces icon looks a lot like Writer. I like the new Wave 3, except these rosy girly icons and themes. I want something more vibrant, stark, sleek and exciting. Maybe next time...

I actually like the icons & their stripes. (But where's the Groups stripe?) The Writer/Spaces similarity makes sense. And flowers are nothing new in Windows / WL iconography.

Long Zheng has been bugging me all week about hi-res versions of these icons, and he finally got his mitts on them: www.istartedsomething.com/.../delicious-new-windows-live-wave-3-icons

@Alber1690: indeed it is down....and showing a green header for me even when I'm not signed in =S previous downtimes made me doubt that there'll be an update this time, but I still remain hopeful......

@damaster: i know...i've been dissapointed before as well. but...im only hoping more this time. my.live hasn't been a part of major conversation for upgrades recently, has it?

@Alber1690: I'm not sure, but neither has Admin Center and they managed to get the Wave 3 look. According to an August 7th post on the My.Live.com blog:

"We'll start planning for our next update to My.Live.com, aiming for a minor update in the Fall.  Right now, most of our time is being devoted to another project that we'll have more information about in the coming months."
