Windows Live Writer expiry prompt hints at new applications to download in the next month

If you’re a blogger and have written a blog post today using the latest Windows Live Writer Technology Preview (Wave 3 Milestone 1), then you were probably greeted with this update prompt.

 writer expire

This is the first time we’ve seen any of the Windows Live teams take this approach. While the obvious conclusion is that the prompt is set to popup one month before the expiry date of 1 October 2008, it still comes as somewhat of a surprise. Great news for those people who like to know exact dates for the next set of downloads, all being well it should be within the next 30 days.

Just for completeness, the “download now” button only goes to get.live.com, but we have a feeling that’ll change very soon…

(So this post bends our Manifesto a little bit, hey its not often Microsoft starts throwing out release dates into the public arena!)

Hmm this looks awfully familiar, where'd you first see this Chris? :P

Not on a public website that's for sure :P

It would be when I opened up Live Writer to write tomorrow's post ;)

Wow, I had used it earlier today and didn't get that. I'll try it again when I get home.

RE: "..the “download now” button only goes to get.live.com." -- but when I got that notice, I did click on that link and then clicked the "Get it free" button, reinstalled it and then I didn't get the notice anymore. Just to be sure, I opened and closed Writer several times and still did not get the notice.

@artfudd, you won't get the download notice for a while if you click the "download now" button

I think I'm missing something; I reviewed the manifesto, but I don't know which one exactly you guys are bending.

Which is it?

lol we pretty much bend every rule we can get our hands on ;), but in this case  I think he was talking about #5.

Yeah it was #5. Not a big issue though.

@Slimy: As nikhil mentions, Chrome is launching today. Maybe we'll leave it a day or so before posting. More time for you to guess though  :)

I find Chrome to be better than Firefox, but other than that I don't really like it. It needs a lot of work; IE8 and Opera are better imho.

I unistalled IE8 as it crashed whenever i was navagating Skysports.com i tried to trace the error, i think it's something to do with a share voilation but i can't be certain... Back to IE7

Chrome seems ok already at 78/100 Acid3 but it will be interesting how good it is against security rememeber the days where FF said they were the best and the most secure browser....
