Live Search comes to Facebook with custom search page

Mashable just spotted the new implementation of Live Search integrated into Facebook.  According to Mashable:

The implementation is fairly straightforward: in the search box on the top right of Facebook, which is also used for quick access to your friends’ profiles and intrasite search, there is now an option to “Search the Web,” which in turn triggers a query of Microsoft Live Search. Results then display within a custom interface designed for Facebook.

Hints on a Windows Live SkyDrive update?

Today while trying to retrieve my documents stored on Windows Live SkyDrive, I came across a pop-up window asking me to fill out a little survey on how to help Microsoft to "improve SkyDrive" in the future. Half-way through the survey, I came across the following questions:

SkyDriveNewFeatures

Seems like Microsoft is thinking of a new way to generate revenues from SkyDrive by offering users a paid subscription service with security features like data encryption, password protection, unlimited storage (or extra storage to 50GB depending on what they decide on), and automatic data backup from your PC to the cloud for a possible $50 per year (prices subject to change, of course).

Is it possible that this will be offered along with the Wave 3 launch? Is the extra features worth the price? This is considering that Microsoft is already offering 28.63GB for free to every Windows Live ID users and you can sign up for as many IDs as you want, and the fact that Live Mesh is already allowing automatic backup to the cloud for free. Additionally, Microsoft is already offering 50GB of Photo Backup through it's OneCare service for $50/year, will this addition by SkyDrive directly compete with OneCare, or replacing it? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Update: Just remembered that we hinted sometime last year about a possible SkyDrive desktop syncronisation, mentioning three new SkyDrive-related domains at Skydrivesync.com, Syncskydrive.com, and Messengerskydrive.com, all of which are currently redirecting to SkyDrive as well. Could this be related to the automatic back up feature?

I would pay that for the ability to backup! They also need the ability to be able to move files/folders that you have already uploaded to skydrive, and also your own personalised url like in spaces and frameit

Unlimited backup seems like a screaming deal, but I don't think it would be truly unlimited.

I think automatic backup of personal files is more compelling then just increasing access size, as anyone can increase your storage, but few would be able to back up your files well.

Encrypted storage is also a nice feature, as it prevents even Microsoft from getting at your data (I don't fear Microsoft looking at my data, I fear others forcing them to divulge this information to them from Microsoft).

Perhaps Microsoft is targeting more casual and business users at the same time?

$170 bought me 1TB of back-up and I never have to pay anymore. MS is getting all about the money; i.e Games for windows live FREE(until enough sign-up) XBOX Live $50 a year.(All ready popular) Now skydrive is hot so? $50 a year. Heck you cant even talk to a MS tech for under $35 bucks. Money talks, especially if its Microsoft.

I would like some sort of a unified service that would give me premium features for all of the live services.  For which I would be willing to be able to pay close to $10 a month or $100 a year.  Similar to MobileMe, now that I think about it.

Of course one way of doing unlimited backup is to limit the amount of upload/download traffic you can do in a month.  A la Spaces with the 500 photos per month.

I used SkyDrive a lot before Live Mesh.  I would pay $100 a year for unlimited space on Live Mesh.  But I think surilamin is right. All of these services should be bundled.

Actually if MS doesn't throttle the upload speed for backups, I certainly would subscribe.  I currently use Carbonite (which has unlimited space) but it is extremely slow. Even though I have FiOS with a good upload, Carbonite won't use all of it.  They said it was "unfair to other customers" I'm sure that was just the best excuse they could come up with.

I consider my data extremely valuable and an offsite backup is important.

Maybe they should make one simple subscription fee  for all the monetized services of Windows Live. Like combine OneCare, Hotmail Plus, SkyDrive Plus, and whatever's good into one flat monthly/yearly fee. Sort of like MSN Premium, but the modern day version.

Call it Windows Live Pro.

I think unlimited storage for 50$ is not a bad deal.

secondly, I wanted to ask is there any way to upload a bulk of images, I mean like picasa can upload any number of images if they are under 1 GB to picasa web albums ... is there something to upload pics to Live Sky Drive or to any other MS Live Service.

Live Mesh is the only service currently I would pay to synchronise with. Skydrive is too browser orientated to truly back up at the moment.

@Mishraz yes, use Windows Live Photo Gallery and you can upload them to a Live Space. If you wanted to then download those albums, as long as you have WLPG on the machine you're on, then you can download them from your Live Space.

All I want is an uploading system that show a progress meter. Seriously, playing bouncing balls is not exactly a good time-waster while waiting for the files to be uploaded.

@ranpha: Actually, if you use the rich upload tool for SkyDrive (ActiveX plug-in required), it does show a progress meter of the files you're uploading, and there's not bouncy ball games.
