Don’t look now, Live Search viral videos worst yet

We thought we’d seen it all when it came to viral videos used by Microsoft to advertise new products. From the “Hot Male” series (pretty good) through to the MSN “No one wants to look dumb” series (pretty bad).

Alas no, we’ve now hit a new low with the new Live Search videos.

Kip mentioned the Live Search UI issues already, unfortunately these videos don’t do anything to help restore our confidence in Microsoft being able to compete with Google.

Please, just stop.

Rather troubling I think... What's with the 'saucy hotel snaps'... please....no...

I'm still not convinced with this vertical integration thing... celebrity search/health search/something-random search.....

I think these adverts are actually making me want to STOP using Live Search...

You really weren't kidding! In the first video, their lips aren't even moving as you hear their (awful) voices!

The 2nd video makes the xRank team look like their baldies without a brain.

And the other videos I skimmed are all corny, badly edited with fake voices, and make me NOT want to use Live Search. Yet none of these ads SHOW what Live Search can do. As far as I know, Google, Yahoo!, whatever can do the same things they SAY in the video. If Microsoft wants Live Search as a great old-fashioned way of doing web search, with users who are out of this century, then great for them.

Microsoft just needs to hire a top-notch advertising agency that effectively markets Live Search, without making it oh-so easy to laugh AT Microsoft. Oh, and Multimap just sucks.

I think that since the video footage seems to be actual stock footage from the times they seem to represent, these videos were made to apeal more to certain Microsoft customers, more than for a viral marketing campaign. But yeah, definately not consumer friendly.

Maybe its my british sense of humour (guilty as charged) but I thought they were quite funny. At least its something different from the pompous corporate BS most companies put out.
