Hotmail spotted in the wild

Just as we suspected, once we posted on “where’s Hotmail”, we started getting reports of sightings.  Thanks to LiveSide reader Graeme (who is getting his website at www.bitsticks.com running, should be up soon) we have some screenshots: And Graeme was able to confirm one interesting little bit of news: Apparently Windows Live OneCare has replaced TrendMicro as the virus scanner for Hotmail: In the old version, a Trend Micro logo would appear on mail, so it looks like the change has indeed taken place. Also Frederick at Read Write Web has a nice little article up , unlike us he’s been able

Windows Live Mail Plus to offer 4GB storage

As more Windows Live services launch out of beta in the next few months, one of the unanswered questions still remains around premium subscribers. Some good news for Hotmail Plus users comes in the form of Windows Live Mail Plus, which is currently only marketed in Holland.

Features:

  • 4GB inboxes from Spring 2007 *New*
  • Attachments upto 20MB
  • No advertisements (across several Windows Live services, including Mail, Mail desktop and Spaces)
  • Microsoft Outlook access
  • No disabling of your account due to inactivity
  • Yearly cost remains at €19.99, expected £14.99 and $19.99 when launched in other regions

While the addition of 4GB storage may seem like overkill for email, Gmail is currently on ~2.8GB, it makes more sense if you can share it between services. While Live Drive is not yet released, this would seem like an appropriate place for it to integrate with Windows Live.

Very good, it was a service that did not have notice on it. Very good for knowing of this. : D

So is the attachment limit really proportional in size? lol

Details about this are also given at http://imagine-windowslive.com/mail/launch/ (look at the "Windows Live Mail Plus" tab) although they are only available in Dutch at the moment - presumably because of the 'Windows Live Mail Preview Launch in the Netherlands'

Well, i suppose that it is proportional.  You get 10 MB attachments with the standard account (2 gigs) and 20 MB attachments with the Plus account (4 gigs).
